Red Skies Dawning isn’t afraid to drag their music into the dirt. While others are too comfortable in polish and TikTok-worthy sounds, the band muddies the edges until the gloss and trend is finally gone. With their latest EP “From Ashes”, they open a portal to a world built from survival and wreckage.
From Ashes was co-produced and mixed by Chris Dawson (SAUL, Any Given Sin) and Jimmie Beattie who also mastered the record. This 6-part EP introduces Red Skies Dawning’s raw and cinematic sound, the kind that has volume but never shallow or empty.

The EP opens with Where You Been, pulling you over with a scream and guitars that feel like rust grinding over steel. But underneath its roughness, there’s vulnerability as the vocals sing, “where you been,” repeatedly. What you’ll get is yearning from falling too deep, the kind that hits closer to the chest.
Obvious as the lead single makes so much sense, carrying the project’s core pulse and thematic spine. Right from the start, the siren-like sound followed by rough guitars immediately tells you this isn’t going to be a smooth ride. This track circles around the disorienting feeling of losing yourself in the fleeting nature of life, until a spark of clarity hits and reveals an open door, the kind you’d only get after getting lost in the chaos.
Their debut single Shipwrecked welcomes you with fast, punchy drum hits and bold guitar riffs. The vocals ride above the percussion, having the same amount of grit and aggression all throughout as they sing, “all I see is dark skies covering my eyes and I am doing it blind.” Think of tension and release colliding in the same space, falling apart yet still anticipating what’s next.
They also covered the classic Don’t You (Forget About Me) by Simple Minds. If the original radiates that bright ’80s confidence, Red Skies Dawning wants you to experience something different. The vocals are edgy, the guitars are sharp, and the drums are thunderous. They shout, swapping polish for catharsis, letting the jagged edges shine with its rawness.
When Red Skies Dawning said it’s everything they’ve torn down and rebuilt piece by piece, they’re not lying. Think of a sound that’s big and loud to shake the ground but still fragile and human. They’ve got grit, rage, and tenacity but it doesn’t end there. The screams and riffs tell you they’ve lived it. From chaos and pain to rising and survival, they made sure it’s planted deep in each track, surpassing mere storytelling.
So if you’re into bands that does more than performing rage and resilience, you’re in the right place with Red Skies Dawning’s “From Ashes”.
